This is a wonderful trophy cup from 1909. The cup was presented to the winner of the 1909 Philadelphia Inquirer Regatta. I think the Regatta was held in Cape May, N.J. The cup is silver plate designed and made by a famous silversmith in Philadelphia J. Caldwell. There is a cool ships wheel in relief on the front of the cup and grape vines around the base.
The cup is engraved as follows:
The Philadelphia Inquirer
Regatta
1909
Hallmarked on bottom by Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia Silver Plate 11281
The cup stands 10" tall and is 9" across handle tip to handle tip and 5 1/2" across the mouth. The finish does show signs of wear and the back is very slightly wavy. Otherwise very good condition.
